The All-New 2016 Suzuki Grand Vitara has a fresh design both on the exterior and on the interior, gives better handling and control, modestly priced in the segment for the entry level base model, good standard equipment fitments and available in 6-speed auto. Suzuki Australia has great hopes for the reinvented Vitara. It is stuffed with known clamshell bonnet and fender flares.
“Suzuki hopes that this Hungarian-made SUV will eventually become its 2nd top selling model right after the Swift.”
When it comes to the design, the all-new Grand Vitara comes with a real edge, which is lacking in its S-Cross twin-under-the-skin and it offers some excellent customisation options as well. The reinvented new Vitara competes at a different landscape altogether to its predecessor – that’s the precise reason the old 3-door and soft-top has been eliminated.
“Suzuki believes small SUVs will outperform small passenger hatchbacks in the coming years.”
Performance & Safety
All models come with a 1.6-litre petrol engine that delivers 86kW of power at 6000rpm and 156Nm of torque at 4400rpm. Transmission options are a 5-speed manual for the RT-S model only or 6-speed auto with a torque converter for both RT-S and RT-X variants. All models get 7 airbags and two ISOFIX anchors and 5-star Euro NCAP ratings, which also comes with an optional AEB system.
Size, Weight & Fuel Economy
The All-New Grand Vitara’s dimensions are just 4175mm long, 1775mm wide and 1610mm high, which is modest in its segment. The kerb weight stands at 1075kg for the RT-S and 1185kg for the RT-X, which is indeed lightweight for the SUV. The combined fuel consumption differs between 5.8 litres per 100 kilometres and 6.3 litres per 100 kilometres.
With a starting price of $21,990 (on-road costs extra) or $23,990 with a 6-speed auto, and standard equipment like daytime running lights, 17-inch alloy wheels and a touch screen with Sat-Nav and reverse-view camera, the Vitara, in fact, out-values other usual small hatchbacks. Suzuki Australia is subsiding on-road costs, and so will offer each for $22,990 and $24,990 drive-away price respectively (This is not applicable for Queensland as it has a different distributor). This definitely beats all new entrants.

RT-X is the other model that’s on the offer and is priced at $31,990 (on-road costs extra). This variant comes with additional equipment such as keyless start, LED headlights, leather-suede seats, auto lights and wipers and a panoramic sunroof. Suzuki’s ALLGRIP on-demand 4WD system is integrated into the RT-X variant. RT-X model gets a few different modes such as Sport, Snow and Lock – it distributes torque to each axle in different ways depending on your driving style and the surface you’re driving.
The All-New 2016 Suzuki Vitara has many positive points like competitively priced, renders decent fuel competence, easy to steer and control, smart and stylish SUV. It offers true value for the money. Those who don’t want to spend a hefty amount of money to own an SUV, this all-new Grand Vitara will rightly fit into their modest budget.
